How we make money, and what we are not
Simple Car Insurance is an information site. It is not an insurer, a broker or a financial adviser, it sells no policy, it takes no payment from anyone visiting it, and nothing on it is financial advice or a recommendation about a particular policy or insurer for you. The pages describe the three kinds of car cover in general, and every policy fact carries the insurer's own wording and the date we read it. Always read the policy wording before you buy.

What pays for this site
We have no paid partners yet. Every link on this site is an ordinary, unpaid link to the insurer's own website, and no insurer pays us for a mention, for placement or for anything we publish.
The intended model is a referral fee: an insurer pays a set amount if you buy a policy after following a link marked Partner. It would not change your price, and it would not change what is published here or the order anything appears in. Every list of insurers on this site is in alphabetical order by name. Nothing is ordered by whether an insurer pays us, and no insurer can pay to change its position, its facts or whether it appears at all.
No agreement is signed with any of the 8 insurers today, so no link on this site pays us anything and none is marked Partner. When that changes, this page changes first.
What we do not do
- Recommend a policy, an insurer, an excess or a sum insured for you
- Give an opinion about whether cover you already hold is right for you
- Sell, arrange, underwrite or administer any policy
- Quote a premium, publish price estimates, or claim to show live prices
- Rank, rate, score or name a “best” or “cheapest” insurer
- Collect your name, rego, address or date of birth to run the questionnaire
- Pass anybody's details to an insurer, a broker or anyone else
- Take payment from anyone visiting this site
- Take money from an insurer for content, placement or the order of a list
The line we are staying on the right side of
These are quoted verbatim from legislation.govt.nz, read on 2026-09-16. They are the reason Simple Car Insurance describes cover types in general, publishes its rules, and never tells anyone which policy to buy.
“A person gives financial advice if the person… makes a recommendation or gives an opinion about acquiring or disposing of (or not acquiring or disposing of) a financial advice product.”
“Financial advice is regulated financial advice if— (a) it is given in the ordinary course of a business; and (b) it is not excluded under any of clauses 8 to 18 of Schedule 5.”
“A person must not hold out that the person, or another person,— (a) is a financial advice provider, a financial adviser, or a nominated representative if that is not the case…”
“(1) A person must not, in trade, make an unsubstantiated representation. (2) A representation is unsubstantiated if the person making the representation does not, when the representation is made, have reasonable grounds for the representation, irrespective of whether the representation is false or misleading.”
